I’m not a “purse girl”. Do I have a lot of purses? Yes. Do I use them? Rarely. I am, however, a chapstick kind of girl. And, really, how can one leave the house without a wallet and cell phone? But let’s face it — the pockets on my skinny jeans can barely accommodate a stick of gum, let alone all these necessities. Luckily, my sack lunch gives me a good enough excuse to lug around a giant lady bag every workday. But what do I do on the weekends and after work? Enter: Thea of I Heart Mon Ami.
Thea creates these small and sturdy zipper pouches that perfectly accommodate my few essentials and more. And you know how much I love sailor knot designs! That’s style AND substance, baby. Taking time out of her busy day of crafting, blogging and momming (to a darling named Alice with strawberry blond curls — eek! that’s precious), Thea was also kind enough to share a little info about her adorable sailor knot pouches.
What inspired your first zipper pouch?
I started making zipper pouches because every time I switch between purses I would have to rummage through them to gather all my little things – lip balm, cell phone, keys, ipod, gum, hair elastic, etc. – and I would inevitably forget something! So, I designed a pouch to hold all my odds & ends that could easily be transferred between purses or used on its own as a little clutch.

What inspired the sailor knot design?
For my summer collection I wanted to design something that inspired daydreams of hot lazy days. I’m a water baby who grew up on the west coast, and my summer days are happiest spent swimming in the ocean and lazing around on boat decks, so a sailor’s knot seemed the perfect summer design to me.

Can you tell me a little more about how they’re made?
I hand printed the knot with a non-toxic ink onto an un-bleached & un-dyed cotton canvas, which I chose for its durability, eco-friendliness and simple aesthetic. I lined the pouches with a striped cotton that reminds me of the beach towels from my childhood and finished each pouch with a brightly colored zipper.
Well, what are you waiting for, folks? Go getcha one!

I’m so glad my little pouch has found a happy home with you. Happy Friday xoxo
I love these zipper pouches too.. They are on my list of handmade things to buy. The striped fabric on the inside is so cute! I am glad that you have one to hold what your skinny jeans can’t!
@Thea: A happy home indeed! Thanks again, dear.
@Elizabeth: I definitely recommend getting one of your own
