Another giveaway!  Another chance to pick your favorite!  Another opportunity to add a little beauty to your life!  Another talented friend I’ve made :) .  Alex Creswell is a crafty, creative lady, and I think she should come to Chicago and eat cupcakes with me.  Between finishing up a degree in photography, freelancing as an events photographer, blogging, selling vintage and her prints, Alex can now add gift-giving to her list of activities.  She’s giving away one 8″x10″ photo print from her shop Pipe & Pepper Prints.

So you sell vintage items and your photos have a very romantic and nostalgic feel to them.  Would you say that you’re fascinated with the past?
I would definitely say that I am. There is something so fascinating about the past and the stories that each of these objects have. I love looking through my parents and grandparents old photo albums and keepsakes. There is just something so beautiful and exciting about things that have been around longer than I have.

What’s your favorite decade?
I have never thought about this before! I don’t think I really have one. I love that I was born in 1986 and I really love learning about the past and having a passion entailing all things vintage, but I wouldn’t want to be born at any other time. I feel like treasuring the things that have come before me and learning from them makes me a better person.

What prompted you to open Pipe & Pepper Prints?
I have always loved photography. I am hoping to make a career of it, but beyond photography, I love being creative in general. For my senior project I wanted to do something that was creative in more aspects than just taking a good photo, which is why I started Pipe & Pepper [her vintage shop]. I have always loved to go thrift store shopping and decided to incorporate my love for the vintage and nostalgia in my photos. Pipe and Pepper came first, and when I began shooting for it, my friends and family encouraged me to start a print shop as well. I am excited to see what happens with it, and I want to continue to shoot and improve upon the selection of prints.

How do you balance two blogs, a freelance photo business and two shops, all while going to school?
Hahah. I don’t know! Its hard because I feel like sometimes I really slack on blogging… so many other things get in the way. One thing that I have realized though is how important it is to do what you love. I love thrifing and shooting and styling and being creative, so all of these things don’t seem like work. They all just fit together. I am finishing up school in December and I am so excited to have more time and energy to put into Pipe & Pepper and my photography.

What’s your favorite part of owning your Etsy shops?
I seriously love the community! I started doing Tuesday loves as a way to get connected with other sellers, and it is one of my favorite things about my blog. I love that there are so many wonderful amazing creative people out there and it is so fun to connect with them. I get so excited when people are excited about their craft and talents.

I read on your blog that you showed your younger cousin how to take some photos.  What was that like, and how did it feel to share your knowledge of and passion for photography with someone else?
Oh man… it was so fun! I wasn’t sure if he just wanted to shoot the camera in auto and look at the pics later, or if he really wanted to know how to operate a manual camera, and I was so excited when he chose the latter. I feel blessed to have a creative drive and I love opportunities to be able to share that with others. It makes me so happy when people get excited and passionate about things that I love.Have you collaborated with any other artists, crafters or Etsy sellers?
I work for a wedding photographer, Cameron Ingalls, and I love it! I mainly work in his office doing day to day tasks, and I also occasionally shoot weddings with him. I am learning so much! I am also really excited to collaborate with Jennifer Young of i art u. We live in the same town and have been planning to get together for a while now. She is amazing and her blog is adorable. She is also incredibly patient with me because my school and work schedule is a little bit crazy at the moment. Another Etsy seller I have worked with and LOVE is Brynn McCaleb (ooohlala headpieces) she is my roommate and I love her dearly. She is getting married June 20th and we are having so much fun putting together all of the details of her wedding!
