Giveaway: Candleholders from She Sits By The Seashore

NOTE: This giveaway has ended. Please check for more recent giveaways here!

Well kiddos, Westervin is one year older, and we’re all one week closer to Christmas. We thought this the perfect time to offer another one of our famed (I exaggerate) giveaways! And thanks to the generosity of two long-time readers, Mandy and her son BJ, we can offer you a chance to win the cutesy set of vintage brass deer candleholders (say that thee times fast) that you see before you! Read our interview with Mandy and BJ below, then leave a comment to enter the giveaway.

Mandy and BJ run She Sits By The Seashore, a vintage shop on Etsy, and they’ve got tons of darling decor perfect for the holiday season. They also recently started a blog of their own, so be sure to wish them a warm welcome to the blogosphere! As you can probably assume from the photo below, they are some pretty fun folk, and I find their “Word of the Day” blog series particularly enjoyable.

Do you have any thrifty ideas for holiday decorating?
Well, I do believe in using items you already have and dressing them up. I’ve always been good at using greenery, berries, boughs, twigs, and pine cones—what ever you find outside. They’re great to set around and to fill things like vases, bowls, crocks, toy farm tractors with wagons, etc….and it’s the perfect time of the year to bring out the toys. My raggedy ann always sits somewhere in the tree, and Sony’s bears are always out along with all of our Christmas books. But my favorite Christmas decoration is actually our Uncle Jim’s heart! He sent us a copy of his open heart procedure in our Christmas card…a xerox of his heart with the doctors notes as to how to fix it. I opened it and looked at son and said, “Well, Uncle just sent us his heart for Christmas.”

Tell me about one holiday craft project you did when you were little.
For Sony, it’s a reindeer he made out of a dog bone. It’s so cute, and it still hangs on our tree. As for me, it’s baking—I loved the dishes and cookie cutters and how much everyone enjoyed the goodies….

Do you have a favorite holiday decoration that you remember fondly from your childhood?
For Sony: our nativity. As for me: my grandma’s whole little tree, and books…

Are these brass deer retired or aspiring Santa’s sleigh pullers?
Well, as you can see how this buck stands, he is obviously an accomplished sleigh puller, and the doe… maybe she’s busy eating to bring another sleigh puller into the world…

When and why did you decide to open a vintage shop on Etsy?
We first started approx. 2 years ago and then dropped it after Christmas. We then started again last year and stuck with it. We’ve been having alot of fun with it this last year, and we’re very thankful for Etsy. We’ve both been bred into a long line of people who appreciate history (vintage items) and repurposing, so this has all come naturally…and there’s more to come!

Have you recently bought anything from another Etsy seller?
Neither of us really buy much for ourselves… We bought a really cool little purse for our niece-cousin from Heart-N-Sew. Our next purchase will be from J. J. Boyles. I bought a journal from her last Christmas for Sony, for recipes, and we intend to buy another one for our nephew-cousin for this Christmas. It’s for recipes again!

What are your top five favorite holiday animals/creatures/monsters?
So much fun, by the way—love this question! So, here we go…
Mr. Hankie
The Grinch
Corneilius Klondike
Rudolf
and of course, Santa!

  1. I see deer tracks each morning, going through the yard…wish I had these candleholders to see the deer!

What a festive giveaway, what a joyous item of nature’s lovely creatures!
