Artist I Heart: Valentina

My brain feels a bit like mush today, which might explain my attachment to this morning’s bright visuals.  I need a punch of color and sharp, erratic shapes to wake me up.  These collages by Valentina are just what the doctor ordered; they’re like the prize in the cocoa puffs box!

Artist I Heart: Cat Lauigan

If you read many design blogs, you may have seen some of Cat Lauigan‘s work; she’s got some stellar pieces for sell on the Parlour Shop at Fontanelle.  But have you seen her mixed media stuff?  Meee-OW!  With bubblegum colors, textiles and furry animal imagery… it’s layer upon layer of kooky-coolness!

Artist I Heart: Christopher Duncan

While searching for a new wall calendar on Buy Olympia, I happened upon Chris Duncan‘s work.  Although I still haven’t purchased a calendar (already five days into the new year, eeek!), at least I have a new artist to heart.  Such colors and shapes and lines, oh my!

Artist I Heart: Iris Schwarz

{ Valerie }

I’m drawn to the simplicity and imperfect beauty in Iris Schwarz‘s lines.  There’s also a nostalgia in her illustrations, which perhaps makes them a perfect feature for the last day of 2009.

Groundhog Hair

These paintings are like illustrations from your favorite children’s stories — romantic and strange.  She even comes up with sweet little narratives for some of them. Visit Amber Alexander’s shop for more fairytale images.

Pearl

“I want a little mouse like Pearl. One who helps you with your jewelry and such.
The lovely lady in the portrait keeps a hunk of sharp cheddar cheese on a chain around her neck as a motivational tool for Pearl. It’s an added benefit for Pearl, but she does it mostly because she’s such a sweetheart and needs to keep busy to calm her nerves.
Pearl also does Madame’s hair. She’s still trying to convince Madame to let her build a little nest up there.”

It’s probably apparent now that I like geometric shapes, bright colors and animals.  Thank you, Joe Rychkebosch, for making it easy to love you.

Artist I Heart: 1911

{ Circus Bear }

I don’t know much about this artist.  Identified only as “1911″, he/she likes stories and games, creating these stuffed characters “made for the purpose of inventing stories”.  I think 1911 likes mystery and playful ambiguity… and I’m game to play along!  I wanna buy all of these from 1911′s shop.
